Teacher examples of limericks

 

The examples below were all written by the teacher as a means to demonstrate how to write limericks. The purpose was to engage them to a point where they were actively engaged in the poetry by reading about themselves and their animals. This, hopefully, would in turn inspire them to write their own.

Now Richard is our fat killer bee,              

Always looking for something to see,       

He's never made honey,                         

And he finds it quite funny,                   

To spend his days pestering me.            

 

Alberto was a crazy mongoose,                 

Who was always out on the loose.         

He bit into a snake,                                

Found out it was fake,                             

Said if I can't eat a cobra I'll have moose.   

 

Now Pepsi is our quiet little Ox,                    

Not to be mistaken for a fox,                       

She's angelic and cute,                               

And certainly not mute,                                

So don't ask her for questions she's got lots. 

 

From Yemen we have Raghd the bunny,  

Who I must say is really quite funny,       

As she hops down the path,                  

You can hear her loud laugh,                  

As she heads off for carrots with honey.  

 

Ryan is our Great White Shark,                

Who's bight is much worse than his bark.  

He'll chew off your ear,         

But that's nothing my dear,    

He'll eat up the rest in the dark.
